Can you take a grip off of a golf club and put it on another club?

Question by procrastinator: Can you take a grip off of a golf club and put it on another club?
I have a custom Red Sox grip on my putter and I am planning on getting another putter so I was wondering if it would be possible to take that grip off of my initial putter and put it on the new one. I didn’t know if the grip had to be cut to take it off or not.

Yes you can on most unless very old.Try taking it to a golf shop.they shoot liquid up to loosen the glue on the tape that holds the grip on then they pull it off.Not 100 percent but its a good chance they can.

If the rubber is pliable, then yes.
The time I re-gripped a set of yard sale clubs, I used lighter fluid, it works great to slide the grips on, then it evaporates. I am sure it will work for taking a grip off too.

sure – but why not spend few bucks on a new grip ? buy the same grip – — but what if you hate the new putter – — stuck with it – cuz your old one has no grip

You can also use compressed air to remove a grip. If you have an air compressor, attach a nozzle like you would use for inflating a ball. Insert the nozzle in the little hole in the end of the grip. The air pressure will build and the grip will expand and pull away from the shaft. You can then slide it off the shaft on a cushion of air. This works for pliable rubber grips. Never tried it on a putter grip.
