I’m a golf instructor and we see everything. You need not worry about being embarrassed.

If you were a great golfer you wouldnt need lessons. Go and learn all that you can from your lesson.
First of all, in order to be a better golfer in the future you have to have a trusted instructor. A instructor you are able to fall down in front of or miss the ball in front of. If you can’t do that then you won’t be any better, especially if you move around with instructors.
Let me give you a little perspective. Most PGA Tour pros have instructors. You shouldn’t feel nervous at all because the golf pro has seen it all. He will show you how to hold the club properly and to hit the ball properly. Most people should seek instruction if they can’t figure it out on their own.
There’s nothing to worry about Fred. Golf instructors are there to help beginner players get better. He’ll give you advice on what to do when you swing a club and how you can improve your game.
Depending on what type of instructor you have, there’s a possibility he could be mean and unwelcoming but most golf instructors I imagine would be pretty nice. After all you are paying them money and if they want repeat business then they have to treat you well.
So even if you swing and miss the ball, I’m sure your instructor has probably seen many beginners like yourself and it’s not uncommon to them. They are there to help you out, so just do what you can and let the instructor guide you through.
The purpose of you taking the lesson is to learn the basics and techniques of the sport. It will take quite some time to really master the game. Besides missing the target or unable to hit the ball is part of the learning process.
